Forevenaslovecrownsyousoshallhecrucifyyou.Evenasheisforyourgrowthsoisheforyourpruning.Evenasheascendstoyourheightandcaressesyourtenderestbranchesthatquiverinthesun,soshallhedescendtoourrootsandshakethemintheirclingingtotheearth.
Butif,inyourfear,youwouldseekonlylove’speaceandlove’spleasure,thenitisbetterforyouthatyoucoveryournakednessandpassoutoflove’sthreshing-floor,intotheseasonlessworldwhereyoushalllaugh,butnotallofyourlaughter,andweep,butnotallofyourtears.Lovegivesnaughtbutitselfandtakesnaughtbutfromitself.Lovepossessesnot,norwoulditbepossessed,forloveissufficientuntolove.
Lovehasnootherbuttofulfillitself.Butifyouloveandmusthavedesires,letthesebeyourdesires:
